essay

“Music videos reflect the social and cultural context in which they were made” Discuss this statement through a comparison of the two music videos you have studied. One mv from list A (CBR) and one from list B (DG)

The music video presented by Collin balie rae, is set in a run-down council area estate. The setting possesses many features which would typically connote this sort of area and it also inhabits many species that may form this idea, including drug addicts, street artists and dogs. This result of the setting displaying the cultural understanding of the life that the artist may have lived, represented in a run down almost broken atmosphere. This idea is completely contrasted with the opposite being displayed with the other song of titanium, the idea represented and presented with the setting is an explosion due top supernatural event. This almost mocks the idea of a broken and damaged upbringing with the fact that the child is represented to having no upbringing and left top fend for himself. The result of this is presented with the damage that his mind can do.

The setting that has been voiced is the contrasting music videos does display some similarities, this is of broken settings and not a functional location. However, the music video representing titanium is very strongly provoked by supernatural ideas and that causes the eruption and therefore the damage which is displayed in the video. Meanwhile the setting is generated due to broken backgrounds in the music video for stop where you are. This therefore infers bad parenting and not the sufficient upbringing in order to earn the living they may want.

The social discretions displayed in stop where you are is the idea of being not linked by others, lonely and therefore left to fend for themselves. The music video reflects the visions therefore presented by the lyrics to be alone but to keep pulling through and to ‘stop where you are’ and appreciate the life you are living. This completely contrasts with the child in the music video for titanium as he is presented as a vision and is not given any time of day and is being hunted by police for being neglected as a child. He is presented as lonely like the actors in the other music video however is not given help but instead being portrayed as the villain.

Therefore overall, despite the idea of social and cultural representations, the two music videos relate on a psychological level, meaning that they are understood in the same outcome of having a broken background and then being lonely, but the difference is due to the idea of the child being a villain, when all he needs is help that the song is presenting in stop where you are. He is left alone, whereas due to the lyrics in stop where you are they are left feeling Asif they have support and aren’t completely alone.
